About Us

Callander Youth Project (CYP) aims to improve the quality of life of young people, aged 11-25, in Callander and the surrounding rural area of 400 square miles, through access to recreation and educational facilities; and support. We support young people who face issues of rural isolation and do not have access to the service provision their urban counterparts engage with.

CYP provides youth activities, support, volunteering opportunities, training and paid employability programmes.

Youth Activities

CYP runs weekly Youth Clubs, during term time, for children in Primary 6 and 7 local to Callander; and for High School S1-3 aged pupils. We arrange outdoors weekend activities for local young people. We deliver 6-week blocks of activities, taking advantage of the surrounding areas and opportunities while introducing young people to new experiences. Activities have included hill walking, orienteering, kayaking, mountain biking. Young people develop key skills such as communication and team work whilst building confidence. In addition, we run school holiday activity programmes.

Training and Employability Programmes

Our social enterprise supports young people by offering volunteering, training and employability qualification opportunities and to develop practical skills in catering, hospitality and the tourism industry, the main employment option in the area. We act as an intermediary to train and support young people to sustain positive destinations. We work with those furthest removed from the labour market to support them to overcome their barriers and progress along the employment journey,

CYP operates as a successful SQA centre through our social enterprise. CYP Holidays offers a range of private en-suite rooms and 4 glamping pods, one of which is fully accessible. We also have a function suite and cater for a wide range of events, including supporting a number of local community activities.

We offer employability qualifications including Modern Apprenticeships and the Steps to Work award. We provide Community Job Scotland placements, offering paid employment and training opportunities to NEETS. We deliver accredited courses to local young people, who attend McLaren High School and who have left education, offering a number of SQA Hospitality qualifications.

We also offer volunteering opportunities. Young people are supported to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. The programme is needs-led and centred on the young person. Young people can improve in areas such as literacy, numeracy, confidence, health, well-being and self-esteem and develop skills essential for their future eg communication, teamwork and resilience.

Why we're raising money

CYP is a charity focused on supporting the young people in the local community.

Through our social enterprise we generate income that helps to sustain our employability programmes. However, we need to raise funds to cover core costs, support the employment programmes, youth programmes and project to continue developing and improving our facilities.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about CYP and for any support you can provide.
