About Us

MCR Pathways is a national, award-winning mentoring programme. Our vision is that every care-experienced young person, or those who have experienced disadvantage, gets the same education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances as every other young person.

We carefully match young people with a volunteer mentor to meet in their school, for just one hour each week. This simple but effective intervention transforms lives. Scotcen found that 81.6% of young people who were mentored left school to full-time employment, further education, or higher education, compared to 59.8% of non-mentored, care-experienced young people.

MCR supports young people in local authorities across the country, currently helping 3,500 young people each week through our programme. We are determined to provide young people with the help to find, grow and use their talent and never be determined by their circumstance. Thank you for your support and interest in MCR Pathways.

Are you also interested in becoming a mentor for a young person?

With their mentor's help, young people feel supported to focus on their future pathway. No qualifications are needed to become a mentor, just the desire to make a difference.

As well as the life-changing impact on a young person, volunteers also benefit, gaining new skills in active listening, communication and leadership, as shown by the increasing number of organisations who support their staff to volunteer with MCR.

In Tribute to Shonah Howison

As we continue to try to come to terms with the sudden death of our dear colleague and friend Shonah in October, we felt that now was the right time to reflect on the wishes of the family to remember her by donating to an appropriate charity. The Land Team at the Scottish Futures Trust, who Shonah worked with closest for over eight years, has spent some time considering the many things that Shonah was passionate about and felt that her love of helping people should be honoured. Shonah was incredibly generous with her time, knowledge, enthusiasm and love in supporting many people in numerous ways throughout her life and for that reason we would like to support MCR Pathways as a tribute to her. MCR Pathways is a Scottish, school-based mentoring programme MCR Pathways supports young people in or on the edges of the care-system to realise their full potential through education. The programme supports 2,500 young people each week through group work, mentoring and work experience opportunities. The organisation’s vision is that every young person who has experienced disadvantage gets the same education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances as every other young person. MCR is growing nationally with support and commitment from both Local and National Government. you would like to donate to MCR Pathways in memory of Shonah please do so via this page. Perhaps you might even consider volunteering as a mentor. Thank you for any contribution you are able to make and for helping to build a legacy of love and support as a tribute to a wonderful individual.

Festive Fundraising 2021

Throughout the month of December, your Shoosmiths Charity Committee will be running a number of fun events that will guarantee some festive cheer.  Whether it's our Christmas Jumper Day, Festive Quiz or prize raffle, we're hoping to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity, MCR Pathways.MCR Pathways was founded in 2007 to address the gap in life-chances and educational outcomes, between care-experienced young people and their peers. The MCR charity was established to support young people who have experienced disadvantage and help them realise their full potential through education.  They do this through their school-based mentoring programme – matching young people with a fully-trained volunteer mentor. We are sure you all agree that the work that MCR carry out is extremely important, so lets end 2021 with a bang and raise as much money as we can throughout the festivities. Your Scotland Charity CommitteePs - when donating and if you can, could you please submit a reference to whatever event you are supporting (i.e. Christmas Jumper Day etc).
