About Us

The Whale Company (Registered Charity Number 1180386) is an environmental education charity based in London. Our mission is to use stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) to raise awareness about plastic pollution in order to encourage people to think more carefully about plastic consumption.
Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental concerns of our time. Only 24% of the five million tonnes of plastic used in the UK every year is re-used and at the current rate, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by weight. 8 million tonnes of plastic ends up in the ocean every year which is the equivalent to a rubbish-truck load dumped into the ocean every minute. These devastating statistics show how deeply important the work we do is.
Here, at The Whale Company, we believe that hands on learning is the most effective way to teach people about the importance of water conservation. We currently run Paddle and Pick sessions in primary schools. During these sessions we give children the opportunity to learn stand up paddleboarding (SUP) before clearing plastic from the waterways. SUP allows children to get out onto rivers and canals to get a first-hand look at the impact of plastic pollution and become part of the solution by cleaning up the waste. We also offer Paddle and Picks sessions to businesses for corporate days out. This way we can spread the word about plastic pollution to as many people as possible.
In addition, we give talks and run innovative workshops turning waste plastic into something useful. We also organise expeditions and fundraising campaigns.
