Grandpont Nursery School Association

Charity and Not-for-Profit

About Us

Grandpont Nursery School Association is a small community led charity. Our work is funded by the charity since our county council ceased funding us in April 2017. We want to help improve outcomes for vulnerable and disadvantaged young children and their families who come to the family room & in the local community. We aim to help close the attainment gap for disadvantaged children. We will nurture babies, pre-school children & families’ health & wellbeing by promoting healthy eating & active free play outside & in.

Our 3 part time staff run vital Stay & Play sessions for parents & young children, & act as a food bank location. We have been open running outdoor activities over much of the Coronavirus pandemic as soon as restrictions allowed however the pandemic has hit our funds & our ability to fundraise.

Many families attending are vulnerable & in need of our support, some through poverty, family breakup or children with additional needs. A large number of families are multi-lingual. Some parents have health problems themselves or are struggling with parenthood day to day. They have told us that they find coming to the family room provides opportunities to chat with others, improve their English, make friends & play with their children in a safe & stimulating environment.

Why we're raising money

We are raising money to help keep the family room open for 2022-23 so that we can be there for young children and help them get the best start in life.
The Oxford Family Triathlon is a non competitive (participatory) community event involving families swimming, running and cycling around the South Oxford area. The event is a sponsored event, run and organised for the "Grandpont Nursery School Association" to help keep staff in post and to maintain and improve our gardens at the family room.
The triathlon covers 8km in total, starting with a 200 metre (6 length) swim in Hinksey Outdoor Pool, followed by 1.7km run though Hinksey Park and Dean’s Ham meadow (3 laps),finishing with 6.1km cycling on a traffic-free course around Grandpont Nature Park and Whitehouse Road (4 laps). The Triathlon ends at South Oxford Adventure Playground where participants can collect their certificates, enjoy refreshments and socialise. Families can have children of all ages participating and complete the event as a team.
Please become one of our supporters and join in this fundraising campaign by signing up to take part in the triathlon, set up your fundraising page and ask your family and friends to donate or sponsor you. If you can't take part, please do sponsor someone who is. Thank you.
