About Us

Who we are

UGANDA LODGE COMMUNITY PROJECTS is a UK registered charity (1150023) that promotes Better Education, Health, Social & Life Outcomes for thousands of needy children in the wider community of Ruhanga and other rural areas in Western Uganda.

For over 10 years we have been busy building RUHANGA DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL, a Nursery and Primary Initiative  which successfully educates over 500 children each year. The school fees are subsidised to an affordable level through our Child Support Scheme which is funded by our wonderful supporters at There is sadly no financial help available from the government.

Recently we opened a VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE, choosing to train youngsters with a trade or skill rather than an academic qualification. Many Primary School leavers will not afford senior school. Even those who do reach Senior 4 and pass some GCSE's find there are very few paid job opportunities, so a trade or skill will enable them to earn a living by self- employment. This gives youngsters a greater value within their local community rather than have the boys drifting into the larger towns for non-existent work, and the girls opting for early pregnancy and marriage.

With the help of donations to the MCNEIL MEDICAL CENTRE, our medical staff provide low cost or free health care for the local community, screen all schoolchildren and with the help of Medical Electives and other International Volunteers they organise outreach work in the surrounding villages. The Gravity-Fed CLEAN  WATER SYSTEM which we are proud to have funded, helps support a healthy living environment by providing clean, fresh water to many village homes.

English speaking Volunteers from across the world can stay at our Guest House known as  "Uganda Lodge" and from this base in the heart of  a rural village they can help at the school and medical centre and get involved in many village based projects. Most also choose to experience a Safari or go gorilla trekking and, again, all profits help fund our work. Your Donations make a real and meaningful difference to the lives of children of Ruhanga and the wider community of SW Uganda. You can find out more about the project and volunteering opportunities by visiting our websites.

Why we're raising money

We are excited to be building a new KITCHEN and RESTAURANT as part of our Vocational Training Centre and thus offer a wide range of Catering Courses to potential young students. The restaurant will be open to the general public and especially cater for passing motorists, thus helping it to quickly become self-funding. We have completed the exterior and much of the interior of the building, but now we need to raise another £15,000 to complete the building with all fittings and furnishings to a good standard.

Please, please can you make a DONATION NOW, or perhaps set up your own fundraising page and invite your friends to donate as well? Are you friends with with any local food outlets or restaurant owners who may be willing to raise funds towards completion?

Regular Giving
If you would prefer to donate regularly you could be helping to enable 500+ disadvantaged village children to have free healthcare, a free breakfast each day and a good but affordable Nursery and Primary Education within their own village (see )

From just £5 a month you could be making the difference to a child’s life outcome.

Without our help most of these students from rural subsistence farming families, like their parents, will not have an opportunity of any Further Education or for learning a new vocational skill which can create a lifetime of employment opportunity for them.

Thank you for making the difference.
